Mick, Keef and co. warm up for upcoming tour with surprise show at LA’s 650-capacity Echoplex

The Rolling Stones played a surprise “secret show” for a lucky 700 fans last night at the Echoplex, a club on the eastside of Los Angeles.
Only about an hour’s notice was given before tickets were made available. Some 2000 people turned up at the venue to take part in a lottery for tickets, while others chased around to get tickets at the El Rey Theater across town. Local TV was on the scene and many of those who were turned away remained outside the club throughout the show. Tickets were just $20.
Onstage, the Mick and the boys were joined by an assemblage of guests that included Mick Taylor, Darryl Jones, Bobby Keys, and Bernard Fowler. In the crowd, celebrities like Johnny Depp, Gwen Stefani and Skrillex enjoyed the intimate performance from a roped off VIP area.
The Stones are in Los Angeles this week, warming up for their “50 and Counting” tour, which kicks off on May 3rd, across town from the Ehoplex at LA’s massive Staples Center.
We weren’t lucky enough to be among the few who packed into the 650 capacity Echoplex, but the show got a glowing at West Coast Sound and judging by this video released by the band today, it looks like we missed a pretty good time.
This the setlist for the show:
You Got Me Rocking
She’s So Cold
Live With Me
Street Fighting Man
That’s How Strong My Love Is
Just My Imagination
Love In Vain (with Mick Taylor)
