Stevie Ray Vaughan: Rare British Interview

The late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan was perhaps the only blues guitarist to truly cross over to the MTV generation, not only through winning Grammys for contemporary blues albums like In Step but also by appearing alongside David Bowie in the video for Bowie’s smash hit  “Let’s Dance.”  Vaughan got his big break playing the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, where he was noticed by John Hammond, Jackson Browne and Bowie, and he and Bowie discovered they both had a lot of the same “real obscure people that we listened to.”

In this rare 1988 interview for the British show “Red the Blues”, Vaughan talks about and demonstrates traditional blues versus British blues, and also discusses drug addiction and covers Stevie Wonder‘s “Superstition” .
