This black and white video of Cream-era Clapton being interviewed for a Dutch psychedelic pop show in 1967 is simply a must-see! Cheeky, young, shaggy haired Clapton is just brimming with confidence as he pours forth about the Beatles, Hendrix, and the emerging psychedelic underground.
Cream drummer Ginger Baker smokes nonchalantly in the background, while young master Clapton says things like, “I like the Pink Floyd now, but I doubt if I’ll like them for very long,” with utter, deadpan seriousness.
The clothes are psychedelic and ruffled, there are Dutch subtitles and the whole thing balances on the edge of going full-on Spinal Tap. Yet Clapton is so unflappably cool as he answers questions from the academically groovy Dutch TV presenter, you just find yourself drawn into his mystique.
