Metallica: There’s No Business Like Shoe Business?

Legendary metal band teams up with Vans to launch unique line of sneakers based on individual band members

Groundbreaking metal band Metallica have partnered with iconic skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans to produce the Vans Metallica X collection of footwear. Each member of the band has designed their own shoe, based on their own individual preferences and personality traits. The Metallica Vans each reflect the individual band members’ influences from music, to action sports, to art.

The range of Vans X Metallica shoes includes:

James Hetfield: Inspired by his favorite pair of black boots, the singer/guitarist added hex-bolt eyelets along with a skull and crossbones motif to “Metallicize” the Vans Sk8-Hi Deconstruct.

Lars Ulrich: Putting a new twist on one of Vans’ original classics, drummer and spokesman, Lars Ulrich added brush twill materials and a print taken from the diamond print pattern on his snare drum.He finished off the shoe with a character by preferred Metallica artist, Dirty Donny on the inside heel.

Kirk Hammett: Inspired by his love of nature and surfing, the lead guitarist used an all natural upper made from hemp for his collapsible slip-on, which features an inside heel accented with a guitar pick inspired by his Ouija guitar and designed again by Dirty Donny.

Robert Trujillo: As a young skater in Venice Beach, CA, the Metallica bass man grew up wearing Vans. For his signature shoe he incorporated Aztec calender artwork designed by his wife Chloe, and set it against a blue background on each side of his Escuela.

The shoes are set to arrive in stores later this month and each comes with an accompanying video that reveals the shared passions of the individual musician and his favorite vans team rider.
