Mad Dog Blog: Stephen Stills’ New BandThe Rides

Steven Stills has a new project and GSTV’s Mad Dog Blogger is feeling it

Thank goodness for Stephen Stills ! At 68 years young, my favorite individual from the timeless CSN (and Y) has formed “the blues band of his dreams” in The Rides.

A musician of Stills’ standing would always have the pick of the litter against any musical playground wall and on forthcoming album, Can’t Get Enough, Stills has recruited former Electric Flag keys-man Barry Goldberg and relative whipper-snapper, Kenny Wayne Shepherd in a combo of whom Classic Rock magazine says makes “Pro-Tools look like something you’d find at B&Q (Home Depot for our American readers).

Featuring a range of co-written originals and blues covers by Elmore James and Muddy Waters, the album also features a surprising cover of Iggy and The Stooges‘ Search and Destroy and perhaps less surprisingly, Neil Young’s Rocking in the Free World. The album’s book-end closer is a previously unrecorded Buffalo Springfield gem, Word Game, and a real belter ! Seems like The Rides have written their own testimonial with this album title…..Can’t Get Enough, out 26 August.
