Tennessee indie rock outfit gears up for 2013 road jaunt
By Alex Baker
Kings of Leon have announced a handful of tour dates throughout the UK and Europe for next summer. The southern rock-tinged indie outfit has been AWOL from the live circuit since frontman Caleb Followill angrily bolted from a stage in Dallas last year.
Once branded as a kind of “Southern Strokes,” over the years, Kings of Leon have evolved their own distinct experimental sound that blends elements of indie, alternative and indeed Southern rock. Their upcoming tour is scheduled for June and July of 2013 and will feature a half dozen gigs in the UK as well as individual gigs in Berlin, Belgium and Portugal.
The band are also thought to be prepping material for a new album that’s also expected to drop sometime next year.
“We are in the writing process now and it’s coming along pretty quickly,” said bassist Jared Followill, speaking to BBC6. “We’ll definitely get into the studio. We have no plans of finishing it this year but definitely early next year.”
We’re big fans of Kings of Leon, especially the steel guitar intro to “Back Down South,” which you can check out in the video clip above.
