Check our video of one of our favorite female guitarists Ana Popovic LIVE at the Iridium in NYC, performing her new single “Unconditional.” Red hot!
Ana Popovic is one of the most fiery blues-rock female guitarist out there today. With her SRV-influenced rhythm sound, killer chops on both lead and slide guitar and a sultry voice, she’s become a fixture of the electric blues scene, playing major blues/jazz/rock festivals all over the world. Here she demonstrates her guitar prowess with a smoking solo.
Popovic’s father, a popular guitarist/bassist in their home town of Belgrade, Serbia, introduced her to the blues through his extensive record collection and nightly jam sessions with his friends. She formed her first band at age nineteen and was soon performing outside her native Serbia, opening for American blues icons like Junior Wells. In 1999, Popovic relocated to the Netherlands to study at the Jazz Academy, and quickly became known in the European blues scene. Soon Popovic gained notice in the US, blowing up at the Memphis in May Festival in 2001 and receiving a nomination for Best New Blues Artist at the 2003 W.C. Handy Awards. Her 2007 album Still Making History spent 19 weeks on the Billboard blues chart, reaching #3.
