Eclectic NYC songstress is on the rise

By Alex Baker

NYC born and raised, Rachel Brown is a singer/songwriter who play plays guitar and ukulele. With her alt-country melodies and a distinct voice that’s equal parts sweet and sultry, Rachel fronts an eclectic band comprised of African and Caribbean musicians. The group’s sound fuses varying influences that include country, hip-hop, and world music into a captivating and unique pop sound.

Having opened gigs for the likes of Mary J. Blige, John Legend, and Quincy Jones, Rachel is definitely an artist to watch in the future. She’s been winning fans with her music and soulful vibe. One of them is Wyclef Jean, who invited Rachel onstage for a duet of Bob Marley’sRedemption Song“at a recent NYC fundraiser.

Rachel’s debut album Building Castles is now available on iTunes.

We caught up with Rachel at last year’s CMJ Festival and we definitely dug her sound and vibe. Check out Guitar Shop TV’s video profile of Rachel Brown.
