The Crocodile Café has been a mainstay of Seattle’s rock scene since the early ‘90s when it was practically ground zero for the grunge movement that was burgeoning in the city at the time. Classic bands from that era to have graced the Croc’s stage in those days include Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, and of course Nirvana.
The club was temporarily closed in 2007. However following renovations the Crocodile was reopened in 2009 and has been back going strong ever since. These days the venue plays host to an eclectic variety of musical programming including rock, hip hop, electronica, metal, punk, and folk. But rock and roll is still dear the heart of the Croc and its regular crowd. Some of the more contemporary bands to have rocked the Crocodile Cafe’ in recent years include Zola Jesus, Explosions In the Sky, the Melvins, and Nada Surf.
And you’ve simply got to love any club that posts its sound system spec on their website! Watch this great footage of Lily Allen performing her hit “Smile” live at the Crocodile Café.
