June Artist Showcase Winner: Vintage Trouble

Vintage Trouble describes its sounds as “live-wired, straight-shootin, dirty-mouth’d, pelvis-pushing juke music.” Indeed. This band rocks. Truly. They are also extremely soulful, consistently delivering a very big sound and exciting stage performances. In the current Los Angeles musical milieu of over-hyped, indie bands with hipster haircuts and limited musical abilities, Vintage Trouble are truly a breath of fresh air.  A charismatic and musically potent quartet, Vintage Trouble take the classic soul sound and breathe new life into it by injecting a touch of down and dirty rock and roll.

The group is made up of veteran players including Nalle Colt on Guitar, Rick Barrio Dill on bass and Richard Danielson on drums. But supremely talented as these guys are, what really sets the band apart is lead-singer Ty Taylor.  A modern-day soul man in the classic mode, Taylor would look at home on the cover of a Motown or Stax album sleeve circa 1966.  Part James Brown, part Sam Cooke and with a dash of the rock bravado of early Lenny Kravitz, Taylor has the kind of voice and presence many singers would push their grandmothers down a flight of stairs for.

Formed in early 2010, the band achieved almost instant success on the L.A. scene, playing regularly to packed houses at venues like Harvelle’s Blues Club, the Edison, Barre Vermont and the Tar Pit.  Recently Vintage Trouble completed their first trip to England where they enjoyed enough success to be invited back to appear on the BBC’s “Later With Jools Holland” and to open a U.K. tour for legendary Queen guitarist, Brian May.

Guitar Shop TV met up with Vintage Trouble in L.A. recently is excited to feature them as our Artist Showcase Band of the Month for June. Stay tuned for our upcoming exclusive interview and smokin’ live performances in our upcoming episode of Guitar Shop TV. In the meantime, here’s a sneak preview: check out this incendiary, soul-packed tune called” Get It” that we captured LIVE at Harvelle’s in Santa Monica.
