SEPTEMBER ARTIST SHOWCASE FINALISTS:
Hopes High is a very cool Rock/Pop band that originated at State College, PA and is currently based in Los Angeles where the band just finished at new EP at Lair Studio. The band is made up of Jesse Weidner on vocals and guitar, Keenan Hall on guitar, Matt Mark on guitar, TJ Barnhart on bass, and Steve Tippeconnic on drums. Featured is their very catchy pop tune “Move Stop Wait” which has hit single written all over it!
THE VIBRANT SOUND
The Vibrant Sound is an alternative hip-hop outfit from Provo, Utah. Fronted by singer/guitarist McKay Stevens, the band plays an eclectic blend of hip-hop and catchy indie rock that’s inflected with flourishes of soul and jazzy guitar, courtesy of lead player Ed Eyre. Eyre and Stevens are joined by Aaron Eskaran on trumpet, Jacob Skaggs on drums, Adam Kaiser on keys, Rachel Kaiser on bass and Lindsey Stirling on violin. With their socially minded lyrics and positive vibe, the Vibrant Sound would make the ideal soundtrack to a conscious party, or at least a backyard BBQ. Check out the band’s nostalgic, bittersweet take on growing up in the ‘80s in this video clip for “79th & Flight.”
Johnny Cooper is a singularly talented singer/songwriter/guitarist who hails from Wichita Falls, Texas. A formidable frontman at 23, Cooper possesses a high, cutting rock timbre that instantly grabs your attention and yet goes down as smooth as velvet. With his backing band in tow, Cooper plays some 200 live shows a year. As he slashes and croons his way through original material that’s an enticing blend of rock, soul, blues and pop, Cooper is supported by a capable backing unit consisting of Cody Shaw on bass, Joe Cortez IV on drums, Nick Ghanbari on keyboards and Ben Shaw on lead guitar. Check out this footage of Johnny and his band tearing it up on a live version of their recent single, “Bring Me Down.”
With a self-proclaimed, “balls to the wall attitude,” Philadelphia’s Sinners Saints deliver ear splitting, catchy upstart rock anthems in the grand style of the best of what the 1980s Sunset Strip once had to offer. Wearing influences like Motley Crue, Gun & Roses and Aerosmith on their tattered sleeves, Sinners Saints is made up of lead vocalist Donny, lead guitarist Bones, rhythm guitarist Joe, bass-player Rob and drummer Dave. Check out this live clip of the boys at their rowdy, hedonistic best as they unleash the party rocker, “Livin’ It Up,” for a wildly appreciative crowd at the Whiskey Tango in their native Philly.
Wooster, a cool band from Santa Cruz, California with a rock, blues, soul, and reggae sound,is led by boy/girl vocal duo Caroline Kuspa and Brian Gallagher (also on rhythm guitar) along with Zach Donoghue on lead guitar, Bobby Hanson on bass, Nate Fredrick on drums, Gianni Staiano on Keys and Dustin Hengl on trumpet. With standout tracks like “Ooh Girl,” dominating local radio airwaves, the music of Wooster appeals equally to the reggae, blues and indie rock ‘n’ soul crowds. Described as “One of Santa Cruz’ liveliest local acts.” Wooster prides themselves on exciting live shows: each gig is a celebration and the crowd is there to party. They have toured all over California and in 2011, they were one of seven finalists in Ford’s “Gimme the Gig” competition. Check out their great song “Ooh Girl” in the video below.
Jacobs Ladder, a rock, powerpop and reggae band formed in 2001 have had a lot of much deserved success over the years. They have played over 600 shows including sets at SXSW and the Warped Tour in 2010. They have been described as having “one of the best local albums of 2009″ by the Miami New Times and won Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands in both 2006 and 2008.
