Alabama Shakes Launch Major Summer Tour

Alabama Shakes Tour: Soul-drenched Southern rockers hitting the road this summer

By Alex Baker

The Alabama Shakes are hitting the road this summer on an extended tour jaunt that’s currently seeing them selling out venues across the country and overseas.

The Athens, Alabama-based soul-rockers have rocketed to fame in the past 12 months, riding the success of their debut album Boys and Girls and the single “Hold On” in particular.

Fronted by 24-year old Brittany Howard, as uniquely talented a frontwoman as you’ll find in today’s musical milieu, the Alabama Shakes have concocted a sound that’s a powerful blend of Muscle Shoals soul, Southern rock and elements of punk.

The band is of course more than capable, but it’s truly Howard’s devastatingly powerful vocals, earthy authenticity, and Etta James with a Gibson SG stage presence that really sets the band apart.

Prepare to have your socks knocked off by this clip of the band playing “Always Alright” live at the Free Press Summer Festival in Houston earlier this month.

The Alabama Shakes will be playing shows in the U.S. and Canada throughout July and August, before heading off on the European leg of the tour in August.

So far the band are receiving glowing reviews for their live shows on the tour. They also have an unreleased track coming out on the latest volume of the True Blood soundtrack which you can check out here.
